FCN Board Apprenticeship opportunity

We are delighted to announce that next year we will be continuing to offer a Board Apprenticeship opportunity with FCN.

This is an exciting opportunity available to a person aged 18-35 who is looking to gain Board experience with a leading agricultural charity. We especially welcome applications from people from underrepresented groups in agriculture. The Apprenticeship role is a 2-year voluntary opportunity, with a review after the first year.

In 2024 we have been working with Hakeem Ojo (photographed) as part of this Apprenticeship. Hakeem will be continuing in his Apprenticeship role with FCN in 2025, helping to mentor the successful applicant who will be joining us.

On his time with FCN so far, Hakeem said:

“My first year as a Board Apprentice with FCN was a bold step that prepared me with skills for future Board roles. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, I gained experience in finance, governance, nomination and auditing processes, learning firsthand the complexities of making strategic, long-term decisions for a UK-wide organization. I also enjoyed attending nationwide events and engaging with farmers and industry professionals from across the British agricultural sector, deepening my understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the industry.

“The Board of Trustees has been incredibly supportive, always open to my questions and welcoming fresh perspectives. As I enter my second year, I look forward to mentoring a new apprentice and embracing the chance to help shape the future with confidence and direction.”

The successful candidate will attend and be an active participant at our Board meetings in a voluntary capacity (8 meetings in total over the 2-year period). FCN will provide an induction, training, travel costs and opportunities for the Apprentice to attend shows and farming conferences in the UK whilst representing FCN.

FCN is a voluntary organisation and charity that aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people in farming and provide support at times of difficulty and change. Our work is helping to create a healthy and resilient future for British farming. Each year we help hundreds of farmers and farming families with a wide array of issues.

We encourage applications to be submitted in a variety of formats, depending on how you feel most comfortable communicating. This could include a written or video application. Please let us know a little bit about yourself and why you would like to be considered for the Board Apprenticeship position with FCN.

Applications are open until 2nd December 2024 and should be sent to help@fcn.org.uk. Interviews are to take place online in early-to-mid December. The Apprenticeship with FCN will start in January 2025.
