Around eighty members of the New Forest farming and commoning community attended an FCN Yarn in a Barn event at Lyndhurst Community Centre on the 9th February, organised by our Hampshire Group in collaboration with a wide range of organisations.

The social and information evening was organised in response to an FCN and Hampshire Trading Standards survey which demonstrated that poor mental wellbeing and the stress of rural crime were key issues affecting people in the Forest. You can access this survey here: https://fcn.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Farmer-Wellbeing-Survey-Summary.pdf

The meeting included a seminar session with speakers from FCN, Hampshire Police, The Future Farming Resilience Fund and the County and District councils. The challenges affecting farmers and commoners were highlighted and ten local organisations providing support and information had table stands.

Attendees included Natural England, NFU (National Farmers’ Union), NIAB, Hampshire County Council, New Forest District Council and many others who were on hand to provide information and answer queries.
