Farming pressures emphasised in new FCN film

FCN has launched a new promotional film, sponsored by NSF International, which highlights the struggles that farming families across the UK face on a regular basis.

The film depicts an unidentified farmer visibly struggling to keep up with the day-to-day running of the farm. The farmer is then seen talking to a volunteer on the FCN helpline before welcoming an FCN casework volunteer to his farm, who walks with him and helps him find a positive outcome to his situation. The film also features NFU President Minette Batters, who provides a ringing endorsement of the support that FCN provides to thousands of people every year.

Charles Smith, chief executive of FCN, said: “Through this film we want to highlight the fact that despite working in idyllic surroundings, the life of a farmer is not always as tranquil and comfortable as many would believe. It involves long hours, isolation, uncontrollable factors and a very uncertain future. We also want to reach out to those within the farming community who are having a tough time and let them know that they are not alone. Many out there will relate to the farmer in this film and the struggles he faces. To those people, please know that FCN is here for them, regardless of what their situation is. I believe this film fulfils these aims very effectively, and I would like to thank NSF International for sponsoring this film and Minette Batters for her very generous support of FCN.”
