A Candle-lit Charity Concert in Holy Trinity Church, Long Melford, Suffolk. Saturday 8th April at 7:00pm
Take a candle-lit church, fill it with wonderful voices and raise funds for a great cause – what more could you ask for?
Four professional singers will come together to perform a selection of well-known favourites from the musicals, Gilbert & Sullivan and opera. The venue is the marvellous parish church in Long Melford, which will be lit mainly by candle-light for the evening concert.
Lyn Davis (pictured second from the right), who sang professionally with the English National Opera (ENO) as Lyn Cook, enthuses about the evening, “I am delighted that we have been able to gather this group of my friends and colleagues to sing together for this concert. We have created a programme of numbers such as ‘Nessun Dorma’, ‘The Pearl Fishers’ Duet’ and ‘One Fine Day’ that we thoroughly enjoy singing and that we’re sure the audience will enjoy too.
“I also love the way in which the church will be lit mainly by candlelight for the concert. The 7 pm start, just before sunset, has been decided so that the ambiance within the church will be transformed as twilight turns to darkness outside. I’m really looking forward to the evening, which, especially with the Gilbert & Sullivan numbers, promises to be great fun.”
Keith Davis, Regional Director for the Farming Community Network (FCN), is equally upbeat about the evening. “My wife Lyn is the soprano for the evening, so I know what great numbers are in the programme and how much the singers are looking forward to the evening. It’s also an important event for FCN, a charity that provides pastoral and practical help to farmers who have no-one else to turn to when things go horribly wrong. We anticipate an increase in calls for help as the uncertainties of Brexit begin to take their toll and the fluctuations in farm output prices continue.
“We’re so grateful to Scutchers Restaurant, John Coleman Butchers and NFU Mutual, who have all offered tremendous support to the event.”
Tickets are £15, including light refreshments during the interval, and are available from the Theatre Royal Box Office Tel: 01284 769505 or e-mail: email@example.com
